Internal Promotion Procedure for the Position of Assistant Professor
1. Legal Basis
Pursuant to §179 and §180 of the Statute of the Jagiellonian University, employment in the position of Assistant Professor (adiunkt) may take place:
-
as a result of a competitive selection procedure announced by the Institutes of the FAIS Faculty, or
-
within the framework of an internal promotion procedure conducted in accordance with this document.
2. Initiation of the Internal Promotion Procedure
The internal promotion procedure is initiated by the Rector at the request of the Dean.
At the FAIS Faculty, the procedure is initiated by the Directors of the Institutes, who submit to the Dean applications of candidates to be considered under the promotion procedure, together with their own opinions regarding the nominated individuals.
Promotion applications are reviewed once a year and must be submitted to the Dean by March 15.
Each academic teacher for whom a promotion application is prepared must first undergo a periodic evaluation (if such an evaluation has not previously been conducted).
3. Evaluation Committee
The promotion procedure is conducted by the Faculty Promotion Committee, appointed by the Faculty Council.
For the purpose of a reliable assessment of a candidate, the Committee may request an external reviewer from outside the Jagiellonian University, representing the same or a related academic discipline, to prepare an evaluation of the candidate’s research, teaching, and organizational achievements.
4. Evaluation of Candidates
The Committee conducts a comprehensive assessment of the submitted applications based on the promotion criteria adopted by the Faculty Council (see below).
The result of the evaluation (positive or negative), together with its justification, is presented to the Dean.
In the case of a negative evaluation, the Committee submits a motion to close the promotion procedure, which the Dean forwards to the Rector.
5. Further Procedure
In the case of a positive evaluation, the Dean informs the Faculty Council of the Committee’s assessment result.
If the Committee’s evaluation is positive:
-
The Dean applies to the Institute Council from which the candidate originates, and subsequently to the Faculty Council, requesting an opinion on the promotion, attaching the justification prepared by the Committee.
-
After obtaining a positive opinion from the Faculty Council, the Dean submits a motion for promotion to the Rector.
If the Faculty Council issues a negative opinion:
-
The Dean may apply to the Rector with a motion to:
-
promote the candidate despite the negative opinion, or
-
close the internal promotion procedure.
-
The final decision is made by the Rector.
