Great success of our Colleagues in the FNP competition for interdisciplinary research projects TEAM-NET!

Prof. dr hab. Jacek Tabor (project manager) of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, together with prof. dr hab. Maciej A. Nowak from our Faculty and prof. dr hab. Tadeusz Marek from the Institute of Applied Psychology at the Faculty of Management and Social Communication received grant with a value of PLN 19,7 million for research within the project: “Biologically inspired artificial neural networks”. The aim of the project is to analyze high-level behavior of neural systems  and build innovative models of artificial neural networks by proposing new paradigms of learning and new architecture of computational models.

Another project: “Nanosensorics and imaging using quantum effects – the synergy of glass and diamond for applications in the new generation biodiagnostics” was granted PLN 18,5 million. It will be carried out by consortium of University of Warsaw, Jagiellonian University, Gdańsk University of Technology and the Institute of Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine. Associated scientists, including prof. dr hab. Wojciech Gawlik and dr Adam Wojciechowski from our Faculty, will search for new photonic materials, elements and systems with specific magnetic and optical characteristics that will allow among others to detect cancer cells.
Analyzing characteristics of computing power of quantum computer is the objective of the project prepared by scientists from Center for Theoretical Physics PAS in Warsaw. They will establish cooperation between four research groups, including a group led by prof. dr hab. Karol Życzkowski from our Faculty who deals with innovative aspects of quantum computing. Project “Quantum computers in the near future: challenges, optimal implementation and practical applications” will receive funding in the amount of over PLN 17 million.
The objective of the TEAM-NET programme, organized for the first time by Foundation for Polish Science, is to facilitate the implementation of large-scale interdisciplinary research in Poland, carried out by a network of cooperating research teams managed by outstanding scientists. Only 5 out of 39 submitted projects, evaluated by a prestigious group of experts, were selected for funding.

Congratulations!
