On October 30, 2019, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education announced the list of 10 research universities selected in the competition "Excellence Initiative - Research University". The Jagiellonian University was among the winners. The strategic program "Excellence Initiative" covers seven Priority Research Areas. One of them is the SciMat project implemented at the FAIS Faculty. This program offers scholarships for first-year and second-cycle students. The best students of first-cycle studies in the fields of: Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology, Physics, Physics for Business and Biophysics may apply for a scholarship worth PLN 1000, while for first-year students of second-cycle studies in the fields of: Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology, Physics and Biophysics may compete for scholarships in the amount of PLN 1,500.
